This gluten free French toast recipe is just the thing you need to get out of the weekday breakfast rut.
Why this recipe works
Now you may be thinking there’s no way you have time during a busy weekday morning to soak bread in French toast batter and fry it up.
Well, this easy French toast recipe doesn’t require eggs and milk and you don’t need a frying pan!
Instead, you just use your favorite gluten free raisin bread, a toaster, a little brown sugar and spice, and a buttery spread. That’s it!
Best of all, not only is this gluten free, but it’s also a dairy free French toast recipe. Perfect for all those kiddos with allergies!
How to make easy gluten free French toast
It’s super easy to make this gluten free French toast:
1. Toast gluten free raisin bread.
2. In a small bowl, combine the buttery spread, brown sugar, and spices.
3. Spread it on the toasted bread.
4. Cut bread in half. Then serve the French Toast with maple syrup.
It’s just that simple. And just as tasty as French toast made with milk and egg batter but without the effort or mess.
Plus, it’s so simple that most kids can make it on their own.
How to make your dairy free French toast special
Spices
Make this easy gluten free French Toast recipe super special by using pumpkin pie spice.
Or you can use just cinnamon if you like. Totally up to you!
Triangles or strips?
If you’re a kid at heart, use a pizza wheel slicer and cut the French Toast into strips or sticks.
This makes it easy for you and the kids to dip the gluten free French Toast sticks slices into the maple syrup. Fun, right?
How to serve
Serve this dairy free French Toast with some berries or banana slices for a wholesome breakfast.

What type of gluten free bread?
If you can find it, I recommend gluten free raisin cinnamon bread since it’s sweet. Plus, the raisins make this French Toast recipe even more delicious.
You can also use gluten free white or whole wheat bread.
If you’re dairy free, double check to make sure the gluten free bread you’re using is also dairy free.
Substitutes for the buttery spread
If you’re dairy free, you can use any type of non-dairy buttery spread or a vegan buttery spread.
If dairy isn’t a concern, any type of margarine or buttery spread, like I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, will work great.
Just make sure it’s spreadable so you don’t have to add another step by softening it in the microwave.
Substitutes for brown sugar
If you’re out of brown sugar, regular white sugar with a bit of molasses can be used instead.
No molasses? No worry. Just go ahead and use plain white sugar by itself.
Do I have to use maple syrup?
I prefer using real maple syrup (any grade), but I certainly understand if you find it too pricey and prefer a more budget friendly pancake syrup.
Even corn syrup will work in a pinch!
Prepare extra spread
Finally, make up an extra batch of the spiced up spread for later.
That way the kids can make up a plate of Gluten Free French Toast after school on their own! Even young kids can use the toaster safely with minimal supervision.
